Smart Start Early Learning Centre has six rooms accommodating up to 93 children per day across the service. Children and parents love our air-conditioned facility with shady verandahs and four fantastic outdoor play areas.
The early childhood years from birth to three are regarded as the foundation of a child’s life. It is a world of discovery and learning. By age two, a child’s brain has already reached 75% of its eventual adult weight. Our state-of-the-art nursery for children up to 24 months has only eight places available staffed at all times by two professional, experienced educators dedicated to meeting every need of your baby and promoting their early childhood development. The nursery has its own sleep room with fibre-optic twinkle lights, and baby monitor. The nursery also has an outdoor, undercover play space, with a wall garden, age-appropriate toys and equipment and a kitchenette for heating bottles etc.
Our Toddler room currently accommodates children aged from 15 months to 24 months. This room is staffed by up to three qualified and experienced educators. The toddlers’ room is a hive of activity. Toddlers are not pro-social and do not like to share, so we provide plenty of internal equipment and toys. We also provide external equipment and experiences in a play-based environment, including, but not limited to gardening in the herb garden, chalkboards, a teeter-totter, bikes, a slide, a tunnel and a sandpit.
Children in this room range from 24 to 36 months. It is fully self-contained with its own bathroom for toilet training, kitchen and art prep area. The junior kindy share their outdoor play space with the toddlers, so children transition easily and the under 3s can play safely together.
Our Senior Kindy children currently are aged from 2 ½ years. These busy little people are learning social skills and sharing, cooking, art, craft, reading and computer-based programs to assist them into the next phase of their development and learning.
We are a Queensland Government Approved Kindergarten Provider. We operate a kindergarten program for a minimum of 40 weeks or 600 hours per year as per the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Requirements. The Kindergarten Guidelines outline five learning and development areas that relate to five broad learning outcomes identified in the Early Years Learning Framework:
• Children have a strong sense of identity
• Children are connected with and contribute to their world
• Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
• Children are confident and involved learners
• Children are effective communicators.
Children who are aged 4 or turn 4 by 30 June in the year they are enrolled in Preschool participate in the program for a minimum of 15 hours per week run by a qualified early childhood teacher. Children in this room access technology via a SmartBoard and computer, and mini i-pads or tablets for our language program. Families may be eligible for fee relief for children in this room, so please come and see us. Children who are developmentally ready but may not meet the age criteria for participation in the program may still be included in the Preschool room if there is availability.
